TEMPORARY HOUSING
Temporary housing is available for the admitted students upon arrival at Carbondale. Temporary housing includes motels and off-campus dorms/halls that are reserved for a short period of 4 to 5 days until the student finds a permanent accommodation. A dormitory style residence hall room can be reserved through our office at a cost of about $20 per night. If you wish to reserve a space, you will need to complete the Temporary Housing Request form: http://www.ips.siu.edu/ISS/forms/temporary%20housing%20form.pdf
and email it to us at oiss@siu.edu as soon as you have received your I-20 and reviewed your housing options.
You may also opt to stay in local hotels at Carbondale and will need to make your own arrangements. You may visit The Carbondale Convention & Tourism Bureau at www.cctb.org for a listing of hotels in Carbondale. Motels will cost about $50 and we recommend that you contact the following:

HOUSING OPTIONS IN CARBONDALE
There are two kinds of student housing in Carbondale: On-campus and Off-campus. Please note that all single freshmen students under the age of 21 and not living with parents or legal guardians, are required to live on-campus in SIUC University Housing.
ON-CAMPUS HOUSING:
On-campus housing provides accommodation to full time students and families at SIUC. Housing includes dining plans where students choose from three different meal plans. You will need to sign a housing contract and make a prepayment. If you decide to live on-campus, you have two options:

Residence Hall:
Areas are maintained by trained, live-in staff offering very good security features, living - learning communities, study areas, computer labs and more. Each room in the residence hall is fully furnished with internet and cable. Rooms typically accommodate two students but a limited number of single rooms are also available at extra cost. Apartments:
On-campus housing has several apartment options. Whether you are single or married with family, graduate or undergraduate, there is an apartment that fits your needs. Apartments can have either one or two bedrooms with its own kitchen , bathroom and living space. On-campus apartment choices are:

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING:
SIUC helps you to choose your favourite way of living off-campus at Carbondale. You can choose to live alone in a dorm or studio apartment, or share an apartment with other students where you will have your own bedroom but share living space, kitchen and bath with roommates. The two types of off-campus housing that we offer are listed below:
- Halls / Dorms
- Apartments
Halls / Dorms:
Halls/Dorms contain rooms in which you can opt to live alone or share with another roommate but
will have common bathroom, kitchen and laundry area. A security deposit equivalent to one month’s
rent needs to be paid when you sign a lease agreement with the landlord or rental agency.
*Single Room: Set up as a suite you share the bathroom with one another room. These rooms offer lots of closet space,built in
shelving and the flexibility to layout the room to suit your needs.
*Private Room : In this room you have your own private bathroom with the same amenities as the single room.
*1BR: Apartments come with kitchen, combination living/dining room , private bathroom and bedroom.
*2BR: They offer plenty of room for you and your roommate with a kitchen ,dining area ,living room ,bedrooms and bathroom.
Apartments :
If you plan to live in an apartment off-campus we have plenty of options in Carbondale. It can be a self contained small studio or an efficiency or 1- 4 bedroom apartments with shared living area, kitchen and bath with furnished or unfurnished rooms. They usually include utilities like internet, electricity and water. Rents range from $400-$900 depending on the number of rooms and a security deposit equivalent to one month’s rent is generally required. We have provided a list of recommended properties below.
