Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program supports undergraduates who have been traditionally underrepresented in US study abroad and those with high financial need. The program encourages nontraditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia. Other priorities include students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities, and students of nontraditional age. Applicants are also eligible to apply for Critical Need Language Supplements if they plan to study Arabic, Chinese, a Turkic language, a Persian language, an Indic language, Korean or Russian.
The Gilman Scholarship provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen undergraduate students to pursue country-based undergraduate opportunities abroad of up to one academic year. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or in Cuba. The Gilman Scholarship does not currently offer funding for summer-only study abroad. For more information, full eligibility criteria and the online application please access the Gilman Program website at www.iie.org/gilman.

Boren Undergraduate Scholarship competition awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East). NSEP was designed to provide American undergraduates with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for a commitment to seek work in the federal government. The 2008-2009 NSEP Boren Scholarships offer funding for study abroad in summer 2008, fall 2008, and/or spring 2009.
