The Chubu region, located in the heart of Japan, has played a central role in the nation's history and has for long prospered under a flourishing culture and economy. The Chubu contains both traditional and modern industries, notable amongst which is the automobile industry.
Although Nagoya University's history can be dated back to 1871, when a medical school and hospital were founded on the site of a local feudal government house, it was in 1939 that the university was formally established as Japan's seventh imperial university.
SIUC exchange students are hosted by NUPACE, the Nagoya University Program for Academic Exchange. This offers the opportunity to study at Nagoya for four to twelve months in a program which combines Japanese language and culture study with selected classes in English.
Nagoya University consists of nine undergraduate schools, thirteen graduate schools, two research institutes and nineteen research centers. Approximately 17,000 student are enrolled at the university, over 1,000 of whom from a lively international community. The teaching, research and administrative staff numbers about 3,500.

Participants pay SIUC tuition (no campus fees) and an exchange charge of $150 per semester. Tuition at Nagoya University is included in the exchange. |
