Innovative Approaches to Social Development in India

This once in a lifetime course and CEU opportunity is being offered through Southern Illinois Carbondale School of Social Work and the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. The program provides a unique opportunity for educational and recreational excursions to New Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay) and Jaipur, as well as visitation at local and regional NGOs. Participants will learn about projects involving education, international funding, government initiatives and use of information technology for social development. The study abroad course will explore innovative approaches to social development in India and a draw parallel to that of the United States.

Short-term Program Details

Location:

Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay) India, with a field trip to the Taj Mahal in Jaipur

Highlights:

This program is not scheduled for 2009. The information here is from the 2008 program. We expect that the next offering will be similar.

SIUC: SOCW 478 - International Social Work, 3 credits (SIUC and at-large students)

Case SASS 575 or SASS 375 Travel & Study Seminar (Case Western Reserve students only)

Program Fee:

Estimated at $3,900. The program fee includes transportation from Chicago to India, local transportation related to the course, instructional materials, most meals and accommodation.

Other Costs:

SIUC or Case tuition is not included. Other personal expenses include passport, visa, International Student ID Card,

Financial Aid:

Financial aid will apply with the exact procedures depending on your home university. SIUC undergradautes are eligible to apply for two $500 scholarships.

Housing:

Participants will be housed in local hotels.

Transportation:

Flight from Chicago to India and local program-related transportation in India.
